Set OfB Price for Custom Objects
« on: March 22, 2016, 03:32:12 AM »
I found a magazine rack with custom magazines that my shop owner wants to sell now (in a back room), but when he set it for sale, the price is ridiculously low - 1 compared to 17 simoleons at the same setting. The tooltip also says it's a custom price.
I've already compared the rack and magazines with the originals in SimPE and adjusted the prices in Object Data but that didn't change anything. Also my Google-Fu seems to be on vacation and I didn't find anything about setting OfB prices for custom objects.
So, can anybody tell me where I have to look and what I have to change?

In-game, you could click the object and select "Set Price". Then, in the interface, click the little label with the tooltip "Customize pricing" (it's in the bar with the "Current price") and then click inside the field with the current price and type your desired value.

Or in SimPE, being this a custom object and all, you could select the OBJD resource, and in Plugin View open the RAW Data tab. Then find line 0x0022 Sale Price, and input your own value. Commit & Save.

Though the in-game method may seem quick and painless, it will probably result in the object being classified as ridiculously expensive, seeing as how it is currently rated at -1. So it's very likely that your sim has a hard time selling it. Also, you would have to do this for every display in every store in the future. So the SimPE route might be preferable.

After setting the value in SimPE, you will be required to delete groups.cache and you may need to delete and repurchase the items in-game.

I think you may also be able to do something in Sims2Cat, if it works for you.  (Seems to work fine in W8, but I could never get it to work in W7.) Sorry, I just checked, and you can't, but you can change the actual catalog price, and also the depreciation, which is possibly helpful (a higher catalog price might mean a higher shelf price, too.)

You'd probably have to change the catalog price of the item to avoid the "ridiculously expensive" thing.  Some "helpful" creator trying to get people to use his new "cheap" item instead of having it near the object it was cloned from.

Hope your puter gets better.  Mine just needed a new power cord/adapter and it's fine.  Nephew's dead laptop was an hp too, and the adapter from that works fine with my laptop.

You're probably right about that, miros1. In fact, I think it's best to first look at how the whole "Catalog Price" section for comparable Maxis objects is built up; to see the relationship between all the different values in that section.

I've already set the catalog price of all custom magazines to the same price as the in-game ones. It didn't work with the general price flag though.

Well, if you've already done all that, then deleteing groups.cache (if you hadn't already done that) and deleting and repurchasing the objects in-game *should* fix it, as I said before. But before we can check that, you'll need your machine back, ofcourse. I'll send some hurry-energy to your 'puter-surgeon :)

I will survive Eastern if my computer doesn't get fixed in time. My father, the electronics hoarder had my old Vista still tucked away under his desk, much better than that toaster of a laptop.  :cele3:  Now I have a look at my Sims2 setup there and get the backups over.

Ok, I think the problem is that the magazine rack isn't OfB ready. The only option the shop owner gets at the rack is buy (which he can't without a cashier at the lot).

Which leads to the next question: How can I make it OfB ready?

Arathea, can I have a link to that download, so I can take a look at it? I need to see it for myself first, before I can instruct anyone else, because I've never had to make anything OfB-ready yet.

I made one of the magazines appear in the catalog now and it worked with OfB (got a reasonable price and had the options for custom price and so on) so the problem is the rack itself.

Is this by any chance Numenor's rack?  Or a rack based on it?

I don't think so. Except for the OfB stuff it works exactly like the default magazine rack and the rack itself looks the same too. It is linked to custom magazines though, which show up in it. The magazines have custom options but they have the OfB settings if placed separately.

Very odd, then that it doesn't have the default settings like the magazines.  Will the magazines use other magazine racks, or are they tied to this one?

While the original rack picks up the appearance of this one stacked with the custom magazines as a recolor, it doesn't pick up the custom magazines. The custom rack doesn't sell the original magazines also.

Ok, I looked at it. The first thing I did, was look up the Catalog Price settings for Maxis magazines - which were identical for all magazines, btw - and copy those to BOTH OBJDs for each custom magazine. Then I placed a couple racks in an unowned Comm lot, and it worked well, with normal Maxis prices for the magazines. So that part works as it should.

Then I placed some racks at an owned lot, set them for sale as always, and got only the "Buy" option when clicking them... So now I'm going to look at the rack soon, and see how it differs from Maxis racks. If at all possible, I *will* beat this thing into submission. :P

Glad that I found something to catch your interest.  :giggle:

I had a closer look at the rack file and noticed that the original rack has an additional BHAV and extended BCONs. But then I did what I usually do when it comes to BHAVs, I carefully tried to steal away before they saw me.  X)

Cool, I'm glad everything is in order now. The thing is, you were right: Hunter240x had not made the Rack OfB ready. It's possible, that OfB was not yet on the market, or still very new, when he made the rack. So I simply destroyed all the resources with instance numbers below #2000, except the Description (#07D0), and replaced everything with the same group of files from the Maxis Magazine Rack. Together with the Magazine prices edited to match the Maxis values, this was enough to make it work as it should.

I'm still not satisfied about one thing, though. I'm fine with the price of the rack being 3000, although it is a bit steep. But the depreciation values and limit do not match the usual pattern. So I'm gonna fix that. And then I think I'll publish the Rack as a stand-alone (no magazines, so people still need to get the complete set from Hunter240x at SXS)

The rack is from July/August 2006 and I think OfB came out at the end of that year so it was made before and never got updated. Until now of course!  :biglaugh:

@Arathea: I suspected as much :)

@Zephyrzodiac: Thank you for the suggestion, ZZ, but I'm fairly proficient in the use of SimPE by now, and know exactly how to set the values right. So it is no problem that Sims2Cat isn't working as well for me as it does for others :) Really, it's going to be alright.

Windows 7?  I don't know why, but it did that to me with W7, then worked perfectly with W8.  It's just so much quicker than loading SimPE.

Windows 7 indeed. You know how it is :)
But really, it's not much of a problem, since I've never done much with Sims2Cat anyway. So I'm not missing its functionality.

BO, I was wrong when I said the rack works perfectly. While my shop owner gets all OfB options now, the rack is selling the default magazines instead of the custom ones.

Oh, so it's a good thing I've not published anything yet... I'll have another gander, Arathea. Thanks for the update.

Made a booboo. In two of the BHAVs, I should have replaced the Maxis GUIDs with the GUIDs of the actual custom mags...

Ok, replacement Rack sent by PM. Let me know if I effed up again! :D

This time it works for shop owners and customers.  :cheese:

The target group wants to thank you.  :giggle:

ETA: The rack shows the right magazines but they don't end up in the customer's bag.  X)

Nope, if everything works like the original rack did it, the mags only show up once the customer is home. They suddenly have a mag in hand, and go in search for a surface to put it on. It's a bit like coming home with a grocery basket.

They don't get it in their shopping bag, no option to pay, no magazine at home.

Probably be easier to make a new magazine rack from scratch.
