Less or no noisy neighbors
« on: February 29, 2016, 05:32:20 AM »

I was looking around for such a mod but while I found quite a few WCIF threads, there seems to be no mod that tones down or nukes the spawning of the noise emitter in apartments. I'm either quite limited with building to make sure that no bedrooms share a wall with a neighboring apartment or have to clutter up those walls. Otherwise my sims' sleep is often interrupted several times during a night. I wouldn't mind some noise every now and then to add some reality but I also wouldn't miss it.

Anybody interested to try this?

I use Squinges no complaining neighbors here:

http://www.insimenator.org/index.php?PHPSESSID=68fa6b80ce094e883115c6851c972382&topic=104618.0

I believe this mod totally nukes the noise emitter because I've never "seen" the noise and my Sims have never received any complaints.

Though helpful, I don't think it will stop the neighbors from being noisy themselves, LilSister. According to the description it only stops them from complaining about the noise your sims are supposed to make. (Edit: but maybe I'm wrong. I'll investigate...)

I think I may try to stop the noise, Arathea. It's about time I took on some new projects...

Hmmm, maybe I was mistaken indeed. I can't say for sure because it's very hard to understand what's happening in there, but it might be that this whole noise/smell/complaint thing works both ways in a single BHAV.

Arathea, may I suggest you try Squinge's mod as linked to by LilSister and report here whether or not it solves your problem?

BO I've been using this mod for years and it nukes the noise emitter both ways - my sims don't hear noise from another apartment and none of their neighborhoods have ever knocked on their door complaining of noise.

As I expected on second thought, LilSister. But that means that both the name and the description that Squinge gave this mod are completely inaccurate, because they both imply that it works only one way.

Yeah, and though I found some WCIFs for nuking the noise, I never saw this mod mentioned anywhere. And usually Squinge's mods aren't unknown in the community.

Sorry, I was playtesting some dorms and didn't have time to try the mod myself yet but if it works, I'll use it.

Of course, if you have nothing better to do with your time, a lesser version would be appreciated.  :halo: It isn't absolutely necessary though.

BO I totally agree with you about the name and the description  Not sure if this mod has anything to do with it, but I've never had the police stop by to break up a party since it's been in my game.

I don't have that happen either, and I don't use any kind of mod to lessen the noise.

The few times that I played appartment lots, I had no such troubles either. And without any kind of mods. But I had a special trick: noisy neighbors only occur if your appartment has a wall in common with another appartment. If they don't share a wall, there is no annoyance. I would occasionally be daring and have apparments share a kitchen or bathroom wall. :-)

Another apartment question: Is there a way (mod or cheat) that let me assign certain npc's as neighbors? And let me choose the apartment they live in?

Maybe Townie Apartment Residents by Cyjon is what you're looking for? It won't allow you to choose anything, but at least it selects townies in stead of Social Groups sims.

The mod doesn't seem to work for me.

ETA: I'm stupid, I put the mod in the wrong folder. Carry on, nothing to see here.  X)

ETA2: Nope, doesn't work.

I'll try it vanilla though next.

ETA3: Doesn't work vanilla (besides the mod) either.

Just out of interest, Arathea, do you have Pes's ALFixes?  Since there's always the chance this is one of the things he fixed....

I had alfixes in the past but the noise is a feature. Neighbors create noise and you can bang at the wall. There will be less noise when the relationship with that neighbor gets better but until then there can be noise several times each day.

Cluttering up the relevant walls with all kinds of stuff helps so the noise emitters have no place to spawn. That poor girl just dropped out of college and has barely the money for the basic furniture though.

Oh, that poor girl. And that is why, whenever I play apartments, I choose to only share kitchen or bathroom walls with neighboring apartments. Sleeping in a room next to that racket is too hard.

Of course, my technique is no option if the entire apartment consists of just one room. So once again: that poor girl!

Just looking at the screenshot, I see two possible solutions.
1. Move the desk next to the door. The chair won't block the door.
2. Move the easel next to the door facing the refrigerator. Finish painting that canvas on the easel and hang it on the wall where you would stand to paint.
Oh, a third option! Buy a money tree or two.

There's a fourth option.

Anyway, she has to survive the pregnancy again since I managed to corrupt the neighborhood in SimPE.  X) I didn't mess with a hood for a long time and forgot to make a backup first. Thankfully I had one just before she left college when I wasn't sure how dropping out might effect the pregnancy. Not too much was lost.

If you have the Benno TV, use a mortgage shrub so she can buy the TV, sell it the next day, replace it and use the profit to buy some cheap wall hangings.... Do the same the next day, and if you have 1000 simoleons then pay off the shrub.  Oh, and put the desk by the wall.

Would make sense, wouldn't it?

Her post indicates that after years of inactivity, she has just started playing again, and suddenly remembered why she has always hated playing apartments so much. Then she immediately sat down to fix that. Coincidences do happen, but this is a bit *very* convenient :)
