I know I probably won't ever play the UC, but a lot of people no doubt will do so, so I thought it might be an idea for those people to have an area here at Simbology where they could report their findings about how various mods work.  I'd suggest you give the following information about each mod you test:

1. Which version of the mod you tried.

2.
a) Works fine.
b) Works if you tweak something.
c) Definitely causes problems and I wouldn't recommend it.

Also, for anyone looking for a way to get SimPE to play nice with the UC, go here:

Nice! I will definitely be testing out the mods I currently have and see which ones work and what doesn't. :thumb:

Great! :thumb:

Hopefully when we have a fair amount of info, we can make a simple list for new UC players to check out.

Could it be that it is actually using a real, already existing game engine as opposed to the usual pieced-together crapfest that usually accompanies these "multi pack" things?

Yes it uses AL/M&G game engine and all my mods for AL/M&G work great.

ADD: I should have said "all MY mods".

While splitting off the derailment (which is to be found over there), I quickly skimmed someone making another valid point: since none of us have any inside info on which exact mods you're currently running, Mark, as well-intended as it is, this still does not tell us much. :)

But besides that, I think it would be much more useful to mention only mods here that have always worked well, but are suddenly broken when used with the UC.

I guess that actually makes more sense than my initial post, BO, since you don't have to be an expert and have done hours of testing and checking to notice that suddenly your sims all get in the school bus or pool car, and then pop up back by the hydrangea!

Some of these I have no idea where I got them from for most I have had since 2008 and I did not put them in folders.

Tested InTeen for AL and it work for me but I like S2L teen woohoo mod and S2L is in at this time.

All these mods seems to be working for me, I have only played for about 1 in-game week so far.

If you have ACR, Mark, I can't see the need for a teen woohoo mod.

If you don't have some of these mods subfoldered, I'm surprised any of them work correctly with other mods.  For example, most of TJ's earlier mods made when he was based at Maty were designed to load after Pescado's, if I remember correctly.

The mods are sub-folder and no I don't have ACR in at this time.

When I first got most of my mods way back in 2008 right after they were updated for AL/M&G I put them all in one folder and have no idea where I got them from.

I will be going and looking for all of them some time in the next 4-6 months and will download them with all info and put all site mods in 1 folder and sub-folders.

I got A-ZZZ mod folders in my game.

Not 100% sure where to put this, but according a recent "Saving The Sims" newsletter it seems that the UC uses a different folder directory/layout than a *real* all EP/SP install, which is something to be aware of when trying to re-install mods & custom content.

Just FYI.

Should anyone out there need a good "refresher course" on enabling CC in the Sims 2 (it's amazing how easy it is to *forget* the little things sometimes) a good step-by-step explanation of the process & the various programs you will need (Clean installer, etc) is on Parsimonious here:

http://www.parsimonious.org/support/sims2-adding-downloads-to-your-game.html

***** UPDATED *****

Just to make things even more exciting, it seems the UC also changes things around enough that SimPE can't find the files right. One modder (Aaroneous - probably spelled wrong) managed to hack the SimPE exe file to fix things, but as of yet such a hacked file has not been mad available to the general TS2 community.

If such a file ever becomes available, rest assured that somebody here will post it or a link as soon as possible.

***** NEW UPDATE *****

For folks wanting to know how to get SimPE to work with the UC, check out this post:
http://www.simbology.com/smf/index.php?topic=8929.msg172609#msg172609

I also added this link to ZZ's original post, just to make it easier for panicked UC users to find- I hope!

I have a discovery, but not about a mod.

More like a very bad nightmare-and it's not a good outcome, either.

Today over at Sims Cave there was a discussion about the UC, and nobody actually knew if Securom could be uninstalled or if it was even in the UC.

I talked to Lisa Pham, and because she has the UC, she very bravely went 'under the hood' in her game and found Securom to be installed in the UC. (she wasn't pleased when she saw this..)

No surprise, right?

Got another think coming:

This version appears to be the newer one that might not be eliminated by any outside program-and also that it is partially hidden in the files, with no way to look at them.

Lisa's going to write an article about this tomorrow on her website, but here's the link to the thread that shows exactly what is in your UC files for Securom:

http://simscave.mustbedestroyed.org/index.php?topic=31995.msg261530#new

Needless to say, I know now why EA is giving it away for free. Too bad so many people now are stuck with it.

So it's now confirmed for truth: UC has Securom, and I'm gonna bet alot of money that TS4 will also have it.

I don't think I'm going to lose this bet.

It takes a program that removes null-embedding from null-embedded entries to remove the frigging thing (i.e. Trashreg).

Thanks for the "heads up", MaryH & Orilon.

I can't say that I'm surprised (always be wary of strangers giving away free candy) & I'm quite sure TS4 will have the same little hidden treasure too...or something even worse.

Looks like I was wrong about EA being lazy in regards to the UC: They may not have bothered with a new splash screen, but they still managed to give the UC something all its own!

Not only that, I might add. They knew full well that we would not like it, and therefor made an effort to hide it, and make it harder to remove. Not that this is going to help them, of course. But it proves that if they really want, they can make an effort. They just choose to use that power against the customers they pretend to want to please.

Well, while there are quite a large number of people who are happy to download pirated copies, I'm afraid I can understand the paranoia of games creators, just as I understand the paranoia of music and film companies.  The trouble is, sell pirated copies at the local market and you get caught, you get a large fine and maybe more, but do it on the Internet from some obscure place on the planet using an ISP that doesn't care, and you get away scot free and pretty wealthy!

Correct me if I'm wrong, but isn't SecurROM a Sony product, not EA?  That means EA did NOT make an effort.

Yes, Securom is a Sony DADC product, but that does not excuse EA, because they're the ones who are using it to fireproof the UC. I rather think the two are in cahoots with one another, have been from day 1 to now.

I also do believe that EA probably instructed the engineers of the UC to make sure it was not as obvious as to make it that.

However, you can use the 'trashreg' program to get rid of all of it-Lisa did it in two steps using the remover and that. It's now officially off her rig. She wasn't very happy to know that EA has been up to it's old tricks-to say the least. She's not normally the one to swear like a longshoreman, but when she posted her findings on FB, she did.

That's one very ticked off Lisa.

I have been lurking on several Sims 2 sites, having recently acquired the UC from Origin. Running into this post gave me pause. I am not exactly knowledgeable about programs, but I do like to poke around things and try to learn things on my own. Reading about "SecuROM" .... I find myself in a shady area of material I am not exactly comprehending.  What precisely can this 'nugget' of a file/process do to my machine?

And I apologize in advance if I have necro'd this thread for this particular question.

No problem, we don't object to necromancy within reason, and one month since the previous post doesn't really constitute necromancy imho.

The main problem with SecuROM is that it doesn't always recognise non-Sony products, and can make your DVD player, for example, unusable if it is not made by Sony!  (At least, that's what alerted me to the problem when it happened to me.)  I consider that unacceptable for a DRM, which is supposed to be concerned with pirated software, not legitimate hardware.

Oh... wow.

Thanks Zephyr. My husband will be very interested in this, considering he is a tech guy. And a huge thanks to those who investigated and found this morsel of information. The links are quite useful.

To mark, I look forward to seeing your list of mods. I downloaded a ton of stuff from MATY, here and MTS and have been cautiously trying to see what is working and what is not. However I am limited in my scope because I am not exactly sure what I am looking for most of the time, and this is the first time I have ever used mods for sims gaming. Many of the things I downloaded I read through and was thinking "well that fix makes sense" or "That is my time of gameplay." I suppose I should just start keeping a list of notes here about my own experiences and post them as I come across them.

My idea was to play once through the Maxis loaded hood (namely Desiderata) before going custom, just so I could get a feel for mechanics and gameplay and understanding all the aspects of the EPs and SP's, ensuring I used Hood Checker every time I wrapped up an evening of play. Now I am not so sure. The advice across the sims communities has been awesome, even if a little dated. My hats off to all you dedicated players and your diligence to posting.

I would definitely recommend you use the Hack Conflict Detection Utility from www.simwardrobe.com - then check back here for info on any conflicts you find that appear to be causing problems.

I'm not sure how the program works with Windows 8, but I had no problem with it and W7.

How do you get Sims2pack files to run for the Ultimate Collection games? The default Clean Installer option didn't work. In all honesty, I never really knew how they worked because I came across them so infrequently, but I just realized I'm missing the Mary Lou 1X lots from my bin.

Oh, of all the hacks- TJ's No Autonomous Talking Through the Teddy Bear. I might have an outdated version, but I saw it happen for the first time in years last week. Only thing that's changed is this Ultimate Collection. It's been so long I forgot it was supposed to be autonomous.

Go to post 528 and read how to change it http://www.modthesims.info/download.php?t=409950&c=1&goto=newpost just make sure its path is for the UC instead of Sims 2.

Thanks Mark- I just discovered an answer myself- on a FAQ wiki specifically about Ultimate Collection, in case anyone else is interested:

http://simswiki.info/wiki.php?title=Game_Help:Ultimate_Collection_FAQs#Question:_Why_aren.27t_my_custom_sims_and_lots_showing_up.3F

The issue was Clean Installer was creating a new Teleport folder in the EA Games folder and not within the Ultimate Collection folder. I added the files to Ultimate Collection\Teleport and they showed up.
