All of a sudden I have a strange problem with graphics.
zephyrzodiac:
Well, if you've done all that, it does, sadly, seem possible that the graphics card is dying.
simsfreq:
Are you getting artefacts appearing on the screen? This is when a jagged/triangular large 3D object will appear in the middle of your game and if this ever happens, you must exit and shut down immediately because it is a sure sign that your graphics card is overheating, to the point that it may be causing damage.
You say that the fans do not sound laboured, have you tried running the computer (and game?) with the side of your computer open so you can check they are working correctly?
aussieone:
Before my last graphics card died, I did experience the giant triangle of impending doom that jutted skywards through the middle of the graphics, but that didn't happen this time. Unfortunately, I can't take the side off and run the game as the computer now refuses to boot up! I'm taking it in to be looked at tomorrow, so when I find out what the problem is, I'll report back.
aussieone:
Update:
My graphics card did in fact overheat and die. Apparently 3 of the capacitors on it have blown due to a solid block of dust that had over time, attached itself to the card. It was over 4 years old according to when the last one was replaced by my computer guy and even though I don't know how long these are supposed to last with normal use, I guess that's a fair run? The upside is yay, newer, faster graphics card!
BoilingOil:
Bummer on old card dying, Aussieone, but :yay: for new graphics card! Congratz!
