Crossword puzzle magazine
« on: July 22, 2011, 02:10:38 AM »
It would be wonderful if there was a magazine for only crossword puzzles and that you could use it forever (or for a very long time). I don't know whether that's possible to make?

Or a sudoku magazine or something. Or like a magazine with mathproblems for kids and teens. And then they earn a logic point. I think it would be great, but it's a bit out of my leak. Would it be possible?

No,  I already found that one.
That's still a newspaper with all the other options you have for newpapers.
What I mean is really a magazine (like for hobbies or something) that really looks like a little crosswordpuzzle book with the only option being: "Do the Sudoku puzzle" or "Do the crossword puzzle"
Like this (but then for sims):

Are you starting from a hobby magazine?  Maybe the magazines that can be bought from the store would work, since they are already buyable.

Aren't there Interest magazines that can be bought at the store?  I used to use them to change sim's interests, once upon a time....

Ok, Max-I'll bite. I'll test this out in my game.  I have a few sims that have a very odd interest in Paranormal stuff, including Loki Beaker, who is now pregnant with an alien's baby.
I can only imagine what his wife Circe will do when he gives birth-probably run screaming from the house: "IT'S GREEN!"

still remain aliens 'cause a brand new magazine require a global hack which act on every magazines rack, and i'm not sure to be able in doing this, also there's an huge risk to touch other hacks.

but we can do somethig different, we can add a new voice to each magazine, something
like "make crossoword about ...[depending on the magazine]" so you can have crossword about fashion, which will increase logic.. and charisma (i guess)
while alien's crosswords will work on logic and something more... just suggest  :thumb:

Oh, that's a really great idea!
I was just wondering maybe to make a default replacement of the magazine to make it look like a crosswordmagazine. There are default replacements for the magazines that came with FT. Maybe it's possible to do for the other magazine's too.

@MaxPs: That should not be the case... It should be enough to default-replace the Alien magazine. Then all the magazine racks would suddenly sell your magazine instead of the Alien magazine.

The default replacement is great for the looks of the magazine, but I like the idea of a crosswordpuzzle including in every magazine. With or without the replacement.

The default replacement is great for the looks of the magazine, but I like the idea of a crosswordpuzzle including in every magazine. With or without the replacement.

Do you know what a default replacement is, Liente? A default replacement is ANY object that takes the GUID of a Maxis object. That's all. You can change the color, the mesh, and even the BHAVs/BCONs if you want... As long as it has the same GUID, it replaces the original. So I don't see why a default replacement wouldn't do the trick here. It would still be a book, and the sims would still be reading it... it just looks different AND has a different effect.

Replacing all the magazine racks is idiocy; a stupid, longwinded work-around for a simple problem.

But Max never said he would replace a magazine rack. It's about the magazin's themselves that woould need a default replacement.
So a default replacement of each magazine (and not the racks) will do then? Wasn't that what you meant Max? It's what I understood anyways.

He may not have said he was going to do it, but he did suggest that that was needed to give this book a different cover... which is nonsense. There's no need to touch the racks at all. Ok, the books in the rack would still look the same, but that's just cosmetics.

And why would one replace EACH magazine? We were talking about only ONE book, we'ren't we? The Alien magazine was to be replaced to act as a crossword puzzle book! So that's the only one we would replace.

After Max made that suggestion I said something about default replacement.

Quote

One would replace each magazine because of the NEW idea of crosswordpuzzles depending on the magazine.
So as I said before I like the idea of of the crosswordpuzzle including in every magazine and with your explanation of what a default replacement is, a default replacement of every magazine (not rack) might be the answer here right?

So the original idea (talking about ONE book) changed a bit as you probably read before.

Ah, ok... If one WANTS to change all the magazines, that's always an option, of course. :)

My only issue was that Max seemed to believe that a global hack for the magazine rack was required, which simply wasn't true. But I'll drop this... I get it now ;)

you where right both :D
in this sense:

if you want to add a brand new magazine, I suppose, I've to put my hand on the rack, 'cause the rack was the dispenser.
In other case i should edit the "magazine subscription controller" which is the same IMHO.

Also, I said that i can edit most of magazines, to have the crosswords option and just to take two rats with a peace of cheese, we could add some more interesting feature depending on the magazine

Okay don't know much about making mods, but just thinking out loud here, would it be possible to have it use the regular read magazine animations for the crossword puzzle in a magazine?
